CNN Recaps 2009’s Lofty Celebrity Passings…

In an editorial by Lisa Respers France, posted here on cnn.com, most of the celebrities that have passed in 2009 are remembered. Those that are obvious to the list, for example, Michael Jackson, Patrick Swazye, and Bea Arthur, come as no surprise to the reader. However, one name strikes me as being odd and, dare I say, inappropriate.

Among respected men such as late Massachusetts Senator, Ted Kennedy and renowned journalist, Walter Cronkite is Gidget, the Taco Bell dog. Really? I love dogs. I do. But this is ridiculous. How can you compare “Yo quiero Taco Bell” with a KENNEDY?! As if enough legitimate celebrities didn’t die this year, CNN felt the need to include a spokes ‘person’ for a sub-par fast food chain. I’m sorry, that doesn’t fly with me.

CNN’s List:

Brittany Murphy

DJ AM (Adam Goldstein)

Bea Arthur

David Carradine

Walter Cronkite

Dominick Dunne

Farrah Fawcett

Gidget

Michael Jackson

Edward Kennedy

LesPaul

Ed McMahon

Steve McNair

Natasha Richardson

Patrick Swazye

“Adam’s Song” -blink 182

Given the recent death of DJ AM (Adam Goldstein) and the very close friendship he shared with blink 182 drummer, Travis Barker, the lyrics to Adam’s Song take on a new meaning, an almost eerie premonition…

I never thought I’d die alone
I laughed the loudest who’d have known
I traced the cord back to the wall
No wonder it was never plugged in at all
I took my time, I hurried up
The choice was mine, I didn’t think enough
I’m too depressed, to go on
You’ll be sorry when I’m gone

I never conquered, rarely came
16 just held such better days
Days when I still felt alive
We couldn’t wait to get outside
The world was wide, too late to try
The tour was over we’d survived
I couldn’t wait till I got home
To pass the time in my room alone

I never thought I’d die alone
Another six months I’ll be unknown
Give all my things to all my friends
You’ll never set foot in my room again
You’ll close it off, board it up
Remember the time that I spilled the cup
Of apple juice in the hall
Please tell mom this is not her fault

I never conquered, rarely came
16 just held such better days
Days when I still felt alive
We couldn’t wait to get outside
The world was wide, too late to try
The tour was over we’d survived
I couldn’t wait till I got home
To pass the time in my room alone

I never conquered, rarely came
Tomorrow holds such better days
Days when I can still feel alive
When I can’t wait to get outside
The world is wide, the time goes by
The tour is over, I’d survived
I can’t wait till I get home
To pass the time in my room alone
