Ticket Stub Tuesday… Round Twenty-Six:
I am warning you right now: If you ever see a show at Joe’s Pub, it will ruin you for all other venues. Situated downtown, Joe’s pub is a nightclub which is run and operated by the Public Theatre. It has a classy, Old-New York feel to it, that makes any night on the town very special. Atypical to most other concert venues, Joe’s Pub offers table seating so that concertgoers can enjoy a cocktail and dinner whilst they are treated to their favorite artist perform.
Such was the case on a bitterly cold evening, last February, when @SimTilver and I saw the one and only Ms. Sara Bareilles at Joe’s Pub. This was the fifth time that I had seen Sara Bareilles with Tim (1,2,3,4) and she was fantastic! We started the evening off with a cocktail, while the opening act was playing. I forget his name, but he was a Mouseketeer along with Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. He was pretty good. I actually ran into him on my way to the bathroom after the show — very nice guy.
By the time our entrees were served, Sara had taken the stage and was in the middle of her set. She is very interactive with the audience, so there is much banter in between each song. Unfortunately, because she had been on tour since her first studio album, Little Voice, was released in 2007, she did not perform any new material. Her next studio album is scheduled for release sometime later in 2010. The good thing about watching her perform the same, familiar songs (aside from knowing all the lyrics) is you tend to pick up on different nuances each time.
Sara’s raw talent and powerhouse vocals, coupled with the great company and amazing venue, made for an highly enjoyable and memorable evening.
