WOAH! When was the last time that you’ve seen one of these?! @TGH3RD forgot his monthly today and had to buy a ticket on the train. @LIRRScoop

…or you’re just an incompetent prostitute, Helena Williams.
The Long Island Rail Road is the only commuter rail operator present on Long Island. There are no competitors, and if there were, the MTA would probably absorb that entity under their umbrella.
By definition, the LIRR is a monopoly. Consumers must use their service. They are subjected to their horrendous and unreliable service. They must pay their outrageous fares, which have recently increased.
Their management, headed by Helena Williams, is a posse of incompetent clowns. There are anti-trust laws in the United States, right? Yeah, that’s what I thought. Clearly something needs to be done. I don’t know how people who have commuted for 30+ years do it. I’ve only been commuting into the city via the LIRR for three years and I’m over it.

- @SimTilver: Let's hope there are no [#LIRR] delays tonight.
- @GregCavo: Well, it did flurry about 6 hours ago... So, I'm going to say that there will be 15-30 minute scattered delays system-wide due to inclement weather.
Monday is the New Friday
- @SimTilver: "I can not wait for my train bev on the way home."
- @GregCavo: "It's Monday!!"
It’s funny ‘cause it’s true. It’s not an unknown fact that the #LIRR has a sub-par track record of providing reliable service. Whoever this clever, cranky commuter was hit the nail on the head. They took part of an interior car card posted by the #LIRR to inform passengers of planned limited service weekends and put the text over an Emblem Health ad to create this hysterical message: “Extremely limited LIRR service everywhere you turn.” this made my Monday!
Despite my seemingly incessant bitching about the #LIRR (Long Island Rail Road), I have this love/hate relationship towards it. While the service is haphazard at best, and Penn Station is a filthy shit-hole, I still love trains. I just think they’re neat.
Currently, at the 34th street exit, the MTA is displaying a series of photos from days of yore. What’s the occasion you ask? Non other than the 100th anniversary of the first departure of an LIRR train from Penn Station. The exact date of this milestone was September 8, 2010 - AKA, my 25th birthday.
While I may not be the biggest fan of the LIRR or the MTA, this is something that we share and I think that’s pretty cool.

[[Pennsylvania Station, back in the day.]]
This is a Model Board-14. This is what was damaged on Monday morning, causing havoc on the Long Island Rail Road. This technology is circa 1913. I think it might be time to stop using the commuters’ outrageous fares to pay the LIRR’s lazy employees and start upgrading their system. The busiest commuter railroad in North America should not be using such archaic technology to serve its nearly 83 MILLION annual riders.
