Twelve years ago today, Melanie C released her first solo album, Northern Star. Five singles were lifted from the album: “Goin’ Down,” “Northern Star,” “Never be the Same Again,” “I Turn to You,” and “If That Were Me.” The album sold over one million copies in the UK alone, certifying it 3X Platinum in Melanie’s home country. To date, it is the best-selling solo Spice Girls album.
Earlier this year, Melanie released her fifth studio album, The Sea, whose sound has drawn several comparisons to her first album. Melanie C is the only female artist who has reached the top of the UK charts as a member of a quintet, quartet, duo and solo artist.
